Opening Today: Peter Vos Metamorphoses

The Rembrandt House Museum, Amsterdam displays the exhibition 'Peter Vos Metamorphoses', with more than hundred drawings, sketch sheets and prints. This exhibition, curated by art historians Eddy de Jongh and Jan Piet Filedt Kok was shown in the Institut NĂ©erlandais in Paris earlier this year.

Peter Vos is one of the most creative Dutch figurative artists of the second half of the 20th century and the first years of the 21st century. The famous Dutch artist Peter Vos (1935-2010) was not only blessed with an artistic talent, a very personal esprit, a tingling spirit, causing many of his creations to be appealing to both the eye and the intelligence of the viewer. Vos' work stands in the tradition of the important European draughtsman.

His vast and varied oeuvre includes a considerable number of sketches and drawings related to the antiquity. Greek mythology is a source of inspiration from the beginning of his career and Ovid's Metamorphoses played a key role throughout his career, especially the metamorphoses of birds which were a true inspiration. The exhibition will not only display scenes from Metamorphoses by Vos and independent figures from the Greek mythology, it also highlights a number of works that can be considered "personal mythology" in which self-reflection, inventiveness and expressiveness merge harmoniously.

His son Sander Vos, Karkassus Jigsaw in SL took the opportunity to create a Second Life version of this exhibition. Jigsaw used the possibilities of a virtual world to show an interesting overview over the artistic life of this great artist. It is maze which is fun to explore. Every displayed work offer on cliack a link with additional information. The benefit of displaying in Second Life is the size of the small sheets related to the avatar which gives the impression of literally huge works, which makes the visitors more aware of the genius technique and details.

This exhibition gives everyone who cannot visit Amsterdam until October 8th an insight into the work of this important artist, shows a rebuild of the working space and his publications. Don't forget to cam out when you left the huge build.
